World Cup 2006

Wat a strange World Cup this has been, for me.. Altho, i am elated that it was italy that lifted the golden new World Cup (the prev cup has been given to brazil for winnin the WC 5 times)..

Im glad i got to watch the matches frm the beginnin of last month, and also got to closely follow all the superb teams.. eventho they turned out to be disappointments to all their world wide fans. My favourites bein brazil (obvious fav), argentina and spain..

I was really mad at the referee, in the spain-france game (in Round of 16) that led to spain not qualifyin for quarters itself! The 1-1 turned into 2-1 wen a wrong foul call against spain's Puyol led to a goal for france... and in the end Master Player Zidane hit another easy goal towards the end of the game... sealin spain's fate to a 3-1.. victory for france and an entry for them into the quarters!

Hmm.. here in the quarters.. my dearest argentina played well and lost out in penalty shoot out to germany's superb goalee Lehmann.. Another reason i guess for their defeat, in penalty was, an extra time injury substitution for argentina's goalee!

I was yet again disheartened, wen france beat brazil in quarters, to qualify for semis! France's Zizou was AMAAZING.. he was called Zidane - the Phoenix! brazil had to lose.. they were pathetic next to france in that game.. they didnt make rite substitutions.. i dunno wat they were doin. They looked all relaxed wit a "cudnt care less" attitude. Robinho was brought in to play in the last few minutes! Why?! I thot they were not goin to play him at all, since he was injured or sumthin.. but if they cud bring him out then.. they mite as well have played him earlier! The game got a bit heated up for brazil after that.. towards the end .. tho it didnt lead them to a victory.. Ronaldo was goin offside lots, as he can only stand there.. poor guy is old and ill.. but managed so many good goals still, in the WC :) he s damn good wit the ball.. i love Ronaldinho too.. he s alwys smilin and playin neat.. i jus love brazil for their game.. even tho they lost.. they r always SPECIAL.. with magnificient football..

Portugal s win over england in quarters was celebrated by me.. ;) I somehow didnt fancy england frm the beginnin.. Rooney got sent out wit a red for pushin Cristiano Ronaldo who had come to the foul scene.. He then winked and hushed his team mates in happiness over Rooney's red card!.. which was later.. flashed over all the news media! haha.. and eventually led to everyone hatin the 20 yr old portugal kid for his guts and show!! :D

In semis... germany and portugal lost against italy and france respectively.. in fair play! Poor Coach Scolari cudnt get portugal closer.. altho this was the closest portugal has ever got to the cup :)

Italy's master defence and young fresh players lifted the Cup today, sometime bac.. with a penalty shoot out victory, over france.. wit Zidane, Henry and Ribery not on the ground for penalty kick.. Henry and Ribery were either injured or tired. The star footballer of our time.. Zinedane Zidane.. got angry at Materazzi for sayin somethin to him (i so badly want to kno wat he said to Zidane). Zidane hit him in the chest lik a bull, wit his head!!! which earned him a red card in extra time.. so sad.. He had to walk past the cup.. to leave the ground.. and handed over his captainship to Barthez.. Both Barthez and Buffon didnt save any penalties, which was surprising.. but a penalty miss frm france's Trezerguet.. and no misses frm italy, in penalty kick.. helped italy win the World Cup finally.. :) Wat jubilation for the italians.. sad for Zidane tho.. his algerian blood really boiled... wen the italian guy said somethin to him.. hmm.. wonder wat it was!.. his reaction in the nick of the moment, really screwed up the 'last' match of his 'last' world cup.. but he still will be remembered for his gr8 play!!

The World Cup has come to an end.. and so has my exciting wait, for each match! Bac to mundane life.. hehe..
